Land transportation:

Sea transportation:

In the international trade, the most popular transportation is by sea. And the frequently-used terms are EXW, FOB, CIF, DDP, DDU.


EXW:

The trade term EXW means that delivery is completed when the seller places the goods at the disposal of the buyer at its place or other designated place without the seller clearing the goods for export or loading the goods on any means of transport. The buyer must bear all the costs and risks of taking delivery of the goods at the seller's place.

FOB:

Fob means that the seller delivers the goods when they pass the ship's rail at the named port of shipment. This means that the buyer must bear all risks of loss and damage to the goods from this moment on, and the seller must go through all relevant procedures for the export of the goods.

CIF:

CIF means cost, insurance and freight. CIF means the seller delivers the goods when they pass the ship's rail at the port of shipment. The seller must pay the freight and expenses necessary to deliver the goods to the named port of destination, provided that the risk of loss of or damage to the goods and any additional costs arising from various events shall pass from the seller to the buyer after delivery. However, under CIF terms, the seller must also insure the buyer's goods against the risk of loss or damage in transit.

DDP:

DDP term refers to the seller at the designated destination, after handling the import customs clearance procedures, the goods on the delivery vehicle has not been unloaded to the buyer, complete delivery. The seller must bear all risks and expenses of transporting the goods to the named destination, including any "taxes" (including the liability and risk of customs formalities, as well as handling charges, duties and other charges) payable at the destination when customs formalities are required.

DDU:

The DDU term refers to the completion of delivery when the seller hands over the goods to the buyer at the designated destination without going through import formalities or unloading the goods from the delivery vehicle. Incoterms The Seller shall bear all risks and expenses for transporting the goods to the named destination, excluding any "taxes" (including the liability and risk of customs formalities, as well as handling charges, duties and other charges) that are payable on imports in the destination country when customs formalities are required. The buyer must bear this "tax" and the costs and risks caused by its failure to timely import customs clearance procedures.
